Protect Your Media:

Digital linear tape (DLT) cartridges, like all magnetic media, require periodic cleaning and retensioning. The new DLT Inspector/Cleaner removes surface debris and dust that interferes with proper head/tape contact, retensions tape to industry standards, and optically scans the tape for physical damage. The machine accepts all DLT tape cartridges, including those of the newer 8000 series drives.

The tape is wrapped around four (4) automatically advancing tissue stations, cleaned by a sapphire blade, optically inspected, and ejected when finished. The cleaning tissues are made of non-shedding nylon material. Both the oxide and back sides of the tape are completely cleaned before and after the sapphire cleaning blade. The cleaning blade, which burnishes the tape, is a precise bi-directional double-edged sapphire blade designed to remove debris which adheres to the tape surface. The blade may be removed from the tape path if desired.

Faulty Tape Detection:

The Optical Defect Detector allows the operator to identify defective cartridges. The optical scanner detects edge damage and tape deformities, such as creases and scratches. An indicator on the control panel is provided that counts and displays the number of defects in the tape. After the tape has been cleaned and inspected, an LED indicator shows the location of each defect. A print option can also be added to allow the user to print a copy of the scanner information for a permanent record of each tape.
